Sandra Moss
Moss Motor Company
Dillwyn, Virginia
The Virginia Independent Automobile Dealers Association honored Sandra Moss of the Moss Motor Company as the State Quality Dealer of the Year for 2007 at the Williamsburg Hospitality House in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, during their annual convention. The State Quality Dealer will go on to the National convention in June 2007 which will be held in Nashville, Tennessee.
Sandra Moss is no stranger to success, her track record proves it. She has a history of determination and drive that matches no other. Some of her accomplishments include; the first woman in 16 years to receive the title “State Quality Dealer” (1996), VIADA State President, 1997, Vice President for her State Association for two years, bricklayer for the curbstoning program in the Commonwealth of Virginia, Region I Vice President on the National Level, Treasurer on the National Level, and is a graduate of NIADA’s first Certified Master Dealer class.
Outside the scope of her industry accomplishments she established the local chamber of commerce, and is very active in supporting and raising money for the local fire department and rescue squad. She also serves her community as vice-chair on the board of directors for Fuqua School in Farmville, VA. Don’t think her success came easy, though, it has been a long road to get where she is.
Born in Farmville, VA, she has stayed local and stuck to her roots. Her parents, while she was a young girl, owned the local corner store, which doubled as the post office. She worked there with her parents after school. She continued to be the postal delivery rep in her area after the corner store closed. It was where she made many of the relationships with future customers for the dealership that would soon be.
Her husband, Bill, worked for a large franchise the next town over, until the crunch in the 70’s caused them to make the decision to open their own independent dealership in Dillwyn, VA. Thus, Moss Motor Company was formed. They worked out of a rented building for four months until they moved into the location where the dealership remains today. They have added onto their business, including opening a rental company (M&M Auto Rental), and a truck lot off to the side of their dealership. Moss Motor Company has an outstanding reputation for honesty and customer service in Central Virginia, they have never had an unresolved customer complaint, and have been family owned and operated since its inception.
Sandra is at the dealership about 90% of the time it is open, all while attending every local, state, and national independent automobile dealers association meeting she can. By her last count, she has attended over 200 such meetings.
